  • The Olympics are becoming the NOlympics

    http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/23997862/

With all of the chaos stemming from the French protests yesterday, Olympic officials are hoping for a peaceful run through North America's only stop on the Olympic tour, in San Francisco, CA.  However, they may not get what they're hoping for.  Already in anticipation of the torch coming to the big San Fran, protesters were able to scale the Golden Gate bridge and hang banners regarding the "Free Tibet" issue.  My first question to the protesters (aside from how in the heck they got up there and were able to hang those huge banners without first being arrested/killed?) would be if they really think they're going to be able to make a difference.  I sincerely doubt that China (or the Olympic commitee for that matter) is going to change the location of the games.  I also doubt that the athletes that have trained and prepared their whole lives for this moment are going to boycott, and the same will probably hold true for most of the countries of the world, too, in an attempt to avoid civil unrest.  However, difference or not, China is still being mighty hypocritical!  For all their talk of "Let's not politicize the Games, etc." they sure have boycotted the games in the past, and for much lessor reasons than the oppression of thousands of people.  I strongly side with Tibet on this issue myself.  Tibet has only been a "part" of China for a little better than half of a century, and it was because China INVADED.  It would be comparable to the USA invading Cuba, taking them over by force, and then attempting to slaughter the Cubans when they try to rebel.  In today's day and age, there's really little point in taking over other countries, especially with the advantages that world-wide trade has wrought.  If China needs something from Tibet, for example, they are now free to trade with them for what they need, and a bloody take over of the country just causes even bigger political problems for them down the pike, like what's happening now.  And don't even get me started on Communism...  I suppose at heart I'm a bit of a commie myself, in that it would be "nice" if everyone shared with their neighbors so that everyone had what they needed and little excess/waste in the world.  No one would go hungry, and the world would be a happy albeit a tad rose-colored place.  However, history has proven time and time again that Communism does NOT work.  People are inherently greedy (yes, everyone!) and so those "in charge" of Communism at its inception are reluctant to release the reins, let alone allow themselves to step away from all the perks of controlling an entire country's assets.  Also, people tend to be lazy, as well.  If they can get away with doing little/no work for the same pay/benefit as the person next to them working their hands to the bone, why wouldn't they?  And thus begins a rather vicious cycle, because then the hardworkers see that the person next to them is doing next to nothing for the same gain, so they become discouraged, etc...  Ultimately, this is why the foundations of Capitalism work so well, MOST of the time people are rewarded for what work/effort they put into something...  and other times not so much.

  • Pleasant Surprise

I am taking BIS 160 at Sinclair College, and to my horror, they REQUIRE students to use Microsoft Office 2007.  I only have MSO 2003 on my laptop and that's all I've been using for YEARS...  Well, I start looking into how much an upgrade would cost me, as I definitely don't have the time to go to the school and sit for hours in the computer lab (that would defeat the purpose of an ONLINE course, anyway) and I suffered a slight case of sticker shock at the $100s price tag for MSO 2007 retail.  Then I call the Tartan Campus store because I remembered that students can usually get software at a discount, which is true in this case as well...  The whole basic Suite would've only cost me $75 or so.  Right before I ran off to the bookstore, however, something exhorted me to search the web to find an even better deal.  Lo and behold, I found THE BEST MICROSOFT SITE EVER...
www.theultimatesteal.com  I was able to purchase Microsoft Office ULTIMATE 2007 ($600+ERP) for only $59.95!!!  Plus, I was able to download it right to my laptop, and not even have to spend the gas on driving to the bookstore.  I even told my classmates about the site, as many of them also had 2003 but hadn't bothered to upgrade to 2007 yet, either.  Plus, even though I was hesitant at first about switching because I was used to 2003, I think 2007 definitely has some potential with all the new features and easy to use menus it has so far.  As for this college student, I'm ELATED that a giant corporation FINALLY cuts students a break!  Definitely a breath of fresh air from the $200+ text books, etc.  THANK YOU MICROSOFT!!!  (Oh, I was also lucky I found it when I did, because their awesome promotion is only good through April 30, 2008.  Whew!)

  • Pledge to Fight Animal Cruelty

Animal cruelty is an issue that still plagues our country at an alarming rate.  Through research and the care and compassion of thousands of caring volunteers, organizations like the ASPCA are able to make a difference in the lives of animals every single day.  Why don't you consider joining or volunteering for an organization today?  There are lots of them out there, everything from the ASPCA to SICSA, to your local Humane Society, too.

  • Election 2008: You decide? No, not really.

This has got to be the WORST presidential election EVER.  Talk about backstabbing and dirt digging...  This will definitely be the "lesser of two evils" kind of election!  From Hillary's "misspeaking" about being sniped at in Bosnia, to Obama's radical anti-white, anti-America church and pastor, to McCain's leaving his wife and family of so many years for a younger, wealthier woman...  When will the American people finally get to have a say in our government again?  When will one of us have enough courage to truly stand up and say enough is enough??  Why can't Average Joe America run for President and have any chance at getting elected?  I firmly believe that the President should be someone from the MIDDLE American class, in the average $40,000-$50,000 per year range.  The "President" shouldn't be someone who's taking a PAYCUT by becoming the leader of our country.  Obama's tax returns show he made well over $1million dollars in 2006...  What a shame that he'll make less than that if he gets elected.  The same holds true for the Clitons, and McCain as well.  Why can't our President actually represent our country as a whole, instead of all the holes in our country???

  • Cellswapper.com

Hm, I'm DYING to get out of my T-Mobile contract!!!  For lack of a better reason, I just can't afford it anymore, and I find myself using it less and less everyday.  I'm paying (somehow?) 200/mth for my phone plus my boyfriends, and it's just ridiculous to pay that per month when I end up with over 500 (out of our shared 700) minutes left over month after month!  Just shows me that I don't need it, but I'm trying to avoid the lame early termination fee of 200 dollars PER LINE.  That's ridiculous, there is NO WAY it costs them 400 to shut down my account.  Greedy corporate drones!

    Anyway, on to my point...

I was doing a web search on how to get out of a cell phone contract, and short of my joining the military or dying (yeah, not much of an option, eh?)  I either have to wait for them to violate the contract by either raising/lower the price of something like texting, or suck it up and pay their little (using the term loosely) ETFs.  Until I found this site www.cellswapper.com where you can actually post your current cell phone contract online for someone else to assume.  I've listed my two line phone plan (not to mention the 2 free phones, $50 cash, and $20 shipping and handling as incentives!!!) from T-Mobile in the hopes that someone can get me outta there!!!  I've actually been pretty pleased with T-Mobile and would consider them again in a heartbeat if I ever actually needed a cell phone in the future.  Anyway, here's to hoping some lucky person will take my contract, and my incentives () and give me more cash in hand to pay off my car and student loans!!!!!

Any takers?  Heh heh, I'll keep ya posted if I get any requests.

    Peace for now!

About Me

  • I am an aspiring veterinarian who will be applying to professional school in June (nervous, keep your fingers crossed for me!). I have a love, no, an obsession with all things four-legged and furry. Especially squirrels!!! My friends all compare me to them, as they are friendly, frisky, and rambuncous like I am! I currently work for an engineering company which is great, but I'm glad that I'm taking steps now to follow my passion. I'm getting married sometime this year, too, which should be interesting, lol. I also enjoy writing and do a lot of freelancing stuff on the side. I really like to write and have loved doing it since I won a Power of the Pen competition in 6th and 7th grade. Whoo, enough about me, why don't you leave a comment and tell me about YOU?
